More thoughts on why we’re doing this —
First, it’s a good useful product. it would be worth doing even if RSS wasn’t moving, slightly, after being dormant all these years. It’s like a time capsule. It went out to the far edge of the galaxy, and came back and didn’t age at all while we all aged 20 years. It’s perfectly preserved.
But along comes Mastodon and says hey RSS, how about this?
And all of a sudden there’s a new role for old RSS.
It can join the social media world and the blogging world.
And there’s a lot of both.
BTW all the things we discover on our path can and should be implemented in Automattic’s reader and Pocketcast. And of course WordPress. We’re off to a good start with Fernando’s markdown plugin.
